MLB News @LoyalMLBFans Mariners pitchers and catchers report to spring training today: The Seattle Times » Well, at leas... http://bit.ly/V413jo #mlb #mariners Collapse Reply Retweet Favorite Buffer More 12:24 PM - 12 Feb 13 · Details At least one fan was already waiting at the front gate to the Peoria Sports Complex this morning when the clubhouse opened at 7 a.m. PT for players to begin reporting for their physicals. Well, at least the sun is out today, though the temperatures remain rather cool. Not that it matters much, since pitchers and catchers are taking their physicals indoors today. Justin Smoak pulled in here about 10 minutes ago to continue the off-season workouts he's been doing here since last Wednesday. Smoak knows there is a lot riding on his spring. "I can't wait to get on it," he said. "I want to pick up where I finished off last year." We'll be here all day waiting for players to arrive for their physicals. It's a bit of a non-routine schedule, since you won't have a bunch of guys in the clubhouse at any one time. In other news around various camps, the big AL West development is that new Angels closer Ryan Madson has been shut down for the next 1o days after experiencing soreness in his throwing elbow. Madson hasn't pitched since 2011 and the Angels are downplaying the shutdown move as a routine part of his recovery from reconstructive surgery. But there is no way to spin thispositively if you're the Angels. For all the money they spent in the 2011-2012 off-season, much of it was largely undone by a bullpen that could not hold a lead. Through it all, the Angels still won 89 games, so you'd have to believe they would have made the playoffs with even a halfway competent bullpen. Now, they're already sweating things one day into camp.
